Why do I need an album when I am getting my images on a CD?
I get asked that question a lot. Especially since many wedding blogs and industry magazine suggest skipping the album as a way to save money. So I thought I’d answer that question.
1. The first reason is because they are beautiful! This is the first heirloom that you will have together. Its the story of the beginning of your family.
2. When my sister got married 15 years ago I put all of her pictures on a floppy disc. Remember those? Somehow it never got transferred over to a CD and now there isn’t even a system that can read it. Fortunately she had an album and I had prints made, but how many images do you have on your computer of important events that you’ve never printed. I don’t know about you but I’m a photographer and I’m definitely guilty!
3. Even if you do actually print your images chances are they won’t be at a lab to which you monitor is calibrated. The prints you get at snap fish or wal-mart are often simply not the same quality.
4. There are so many couples who truly intend to make an album but just don’t have the time or because they realize that reputable album wholesalers don’t sell to the public.
5. Of course you can order albums from someone like snap-fish, Wal-mart or blurb right? Now there is nothing wrong with these companies and they are great for the point and shooter who wants to create a gift for Christmas or a keepsake from a family event. These printers are not meant to be used for professional printing. As mentioned above they aren’t calibrated to your computer’s monitor or other photographic equipment. Again this will affect the quality and look of the images and books. These books aren’t the same quality as professional grade books and won’t last as long.
6. Finally, you spent a lot of time and money to make your wedding exactly what you wanted. You took care with each detail including choosing your photographer. When its all over why not have a beautiful album to display.
